Forest fires approach Canadian oil wells amid a severe free wave
The hot weather erupted a series of forest fires around the Canadian province of Alberta during the weekend, some of which are near oil and gas wells operated by the Canadian Nature Resources Ltd and others.
Four fires were burning in Alberta at 4:15 pm on Monday, including a 2000 hectare fire near the “Swan Hills” area.
Fires threatening Canadian oil
The province issued a notice of the town’s residents asking them to prepare for the evacuation within one hour if necessary. This fire is located less than half a kilometer from a well location occupied by the company “Kennedyan Natural Resources”, and less than 20 kilometers from other wells occupied by the company and other companies. “Kennedyan Natural” said in an email that she is following the placing of forest fires in all its operations, adding that she is working to ensure the safety of employees who live in evacuation areas, and that she has ready -made emergency response plans.
Alberta Wildfire did not respond to a phone call to request a comment.
Forest fires pose a continuous threat to the production of oil and gas in the province, and are usually exacerbated during the period from March to October. Fort McMouri, the largest population center near the huge oil sand operations in Alberta, was severely damaged due to a 2016 fire, which forced thousands of evacuation and led to a temporary stoppage to produce more than a million barrels per day of oil.
