Instagram uses artificial intelligence to discover the true age of adolescents

Meta, which owns the Instagram application, said today, Monday, that the application began to test the use of artificial intelligence to determine whether children are lying about their ages.

Meta indicated that it has been using artificial intelligence to determine the ages of users for a while, but the application of photos and videos will start searching “proactive” for the accounts that are suspected of teenagers, even if they have introduced inaccurate birth dates when registering.

The company added that if it turns out that one of the users provides wrong information about his age, his account will be converted automatically to a teenage account, an account that imposes more restrictions compared to adult accounts.

Teenagers’ accounts are privately, as private messages are restricted so that adolescents can only receive from people who follow them or have prior contact with them.

Meta said that “sensitive content” will be restricted, such as videos of people who quarrel or promote cosmetic materials.
