An escalation that threatens maritime shipping globally .. America imposes fees on the entry of China’s ships
The administration of US President Donald Trump has begun to move to impose fees on Chinese ships entering the American ports, a step threatening the disturbance of the marine shipping movement in the world and fueling the trade war between Beijing and Washington.
According to a plan put forward by the American commercial actor yesterday, all ships made in China or owned by Chinese, entering the American ports will be subject to a drawing based on the size of the goods they carry, for each trip separately, this proposal comes after months of investigations that started on the extent of the threat of commercial ships made in the American national security.
At the same time, the plan also harms non -Chinese shipbuilding companies because it includes the imposition of a drawing on any ship carrying vehicles that are not made in the United States when they enter the American ports.
The plan known as the petition No. 301 requires the start of the fees within 6 months, provided that another stage to restrict foreign -made ships that transport LNG within 3 years begins, and after 6 months, Chinese ships will pay $ 50 per ton of net of their cargo, or the equivalent of the area of loading goods and goods in the ship when entering the American port, and then gradually rises over a period of 3 years.
The entry fees for the entry of ships in China for American ports will be determined on the basis of the net weight of the load or the number of containers, and the outcome of these fees will be used in supporting the non -drums industry in the United States.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Lynn Jian, criticized these measures today, Friday, that it will harm consumers and American companies, in addition to hindering global supply chains, and will also fail to revive the American shipbuilding industry, adding “measures such as imposing port fees and imposing definitions on goods handling facilities that harm Washington itself, as well as others.”
