Trump: 25% fees on Apple products until the iPhone is produced in America
US President Donald Trump threatened to impose 25% fees on Apple technology products, unless the company turns to the manufacture of iPhone phones in America.
This threat that Trump has through the media may lead to a significant increase in iPhone prices, which may harm the sales and profits of one of the leading American technology companies.
The company is now joining Amazon, Wall Mart and other major companies, in the circle of attention of the White House, in its attempt to face uncertainty and inflationary pressure from the customs duties imposed by Trump.
Trump said on the Truth Social platform to “Social Communication”: “Tim Cook, the president of Apple, has long been informed that I expect to make iPhone phones that will be sold in America, in factories in the United States, and not in India or anywhere else … If this does not happen, Apple must pay a customs tariff of not less than 25% for the United States.”
In response to Trump’s customs definitions on China, Apple, led by CEO Tim Cook, was looking to transfer the manufacture of iPhone to India as part of its modification of supply chains. This plan became a growing source of frustration with the American president, who also raised it last week during his tour in the Arab Gulf states.
