Major gas promotes as the best way to curb emissions

The world’s leading gas producers in the world put their fuel as a solution to the countries that are struggling to expand the use of renewable energy sources, in an effort to reduce carbon emissions.

During his participation in a discussion episode within the activities of the World Gas Conference held in Beijing, the CEO of Total Enemz Patrick Boyan stressed that burning gas generates about half the amount of greenhouse gases resulting from coal, calling on governments not to ignore the importance of this interim step in the path of reducing emissions.

He added that gas producers need to focus on reducing costs in order to enhance their competitiveness in front of coal in emerging markets, explaining that “coal is the real discount of gas, and the competitor to it, because it produces in many emerging countries such as China and India, and provides job opportunities, and whether or not we want, its price is cheap.”

Environmental warnings of gas are escalating

This vision is completely inconsistent with the position of the environmental activists, who warn that the gas may not be just a transition towards clean energy, but may consolidate its position, just as it happened with coal in the past.

Moreover, satellite -captured images indicate that the gas industry launches methane gas in larger quantities than announced, emissions that constitute a direct threat to the climate that exceeds the risk of carbon dioxide.

Boyan explained that gas and renewable can complete each other, as electricity increases in the wind and solar energy mortgaged by appropriate weather conditions, citing an example of Germany that seeks to build more gas stations after a long period of wind speed decreased earlier this year, which affected the production of electricity.

“The wind did not blow for a week. Do you think customers will wait for a whole week to obtain electricity? Certainly, no people want electricity throughout the hour a week. This means that even with a good system of renewable energy, a backup system will remain.”

Solutions without carbon emissions

This possible integrative relationship led to some of them describing gas as transitional fuel, with countries turning away from dependence on fossil fuels in the end.

But for the state -owned Malaysian “Petronas”, this scenario is unlikely in areas such as Asia, where energy demand continues to grow at an accelerated pace. Instead, gas producers should develop ways to reduce greenhouse emissions resulting from burning fuel or launch.

The president of the company, Tenko Tawfiq, said during the session: “The gas is not a transitional fuel, but rather it is a basic fuel for some geographical areas if it is seized and managed appropriately within the energy mix,” while companies such as “Petronas” and “Woodsid Energy Group” are holding talks with its customers on long -term solutions that are not emitted from greenhouse gases, such as ammonia and hydrogen.

But until these types of fuel become widely applicable and with an economic competitive capacity, buyers should take gradual steps that contribute to reducing coal emissions, according to what the CEO of Woodssaid MiG O’Neil stated that “there are some people in the world who would like to move directly from our current situation to a world free of emissions tomorrow. But we have to admit that every step We make it to reduce emissions over time is a positive step, and we must continue to support these steps. “
